This is it!!!

This semester has been difficult, but it also was fun. It was challenging, but showed me the way to become a responsible,and dedicated student. For each assignment I tried to earn an A,but not always tried my best, specially in those where we had to research about our topics. I wanted to use words that I don't use everyday, I learned my vocab so the class wouldn't be as hard as it seemed to be for me last year. Also I tried to make interesting jobs, which people would enjoy reading and learning about.The blog project was new for me, moreover there were some times that I couldn't understand what the assignment was, but with my classmates help, they were clarified and easier to write. Also there were some other hard classes, and i had to be smart and find a way to organize myself, so I wouldn't fail any of them.My after school life changed drastically, I went from watching TV five hours to only one and dedicating all the time left to study and do my homework. But my cellphone also helped me, it remembered me what my errands, and homework were.

When looking for books and articles with information about Top Models, I learned that models are not as popular as they were many years ago, and it made my research a little bit harder. Together with that I noticed an improvement on myself. Now I can read and skim articles faster, my writing developed a voice that I did not even know I had, my researching skills also improved. Now I can look for information about something of my interest in different resources apart from Google. My blog had different kinds of writing, but the most difficult for me was, when reading articles and then putting in my own words. Also having to find a nonfiction article to read every week was hard, and sometimes a big challenge, where I actually had fun decorating and finding pictures to add to it. But what really challenged me and still does is writing using word choice. I just cannot get used to use advanced words without feeling Gauche!

This semester was fun and I actually enjoyed learning about a topic that I found interesting and getting credits for it. What I discovered about Models and their lives is going to stay with me my whole life. Models were an exciting and sad topic to learn about. The way Paulina Porizkova described her beginning as a Model, how she felt, all the sacrifices she made, and the challenges that a lot of her model friends faced is the idea that is going to live with me forever. The information that now is in my brain will need updates and I would like to keep actualized. My love for models is a way to admire them, but if I were a lot more taller and thin, I would love to experience that career. But now I know that models are just people's caprice and they don't have the opportunity to live a real life.

Book Review

A model summer by Paulina Porizkova is a fascinating fiction book. This book gave me a wider knowledge of what a modeling career is. Because of the detailed way Porizokova told her story and the word choice she used she was able of making me feel sad, happy and excited as I went through it. A Model Summer can be enjoyable for young girls but also for older women.

Paulina Porizkova is a Czech former political refugee, a model and also an actress. Her book is reliable because she based it on her personal experiences. Porizkova seemed to like and enjoyed her career as a model, according to the book. Perhaps Porizkova once declared "I hate modeling, i still think models are dumb and brainless"
This book is very small; it was written in first person point of view and is divided into twenty six chapters. Each chapter describes the main character’s feelings, and experiences of her time spent in France, the troubles she got into and how she fought to become a real model. Chapters made the story easy to comprehend even in the hardest situations, which are difficult to explain without taking a lot of pages. In the exposition Jirina Radovanovicova is introduced as a tall and plain girl of fifteen years old, who thinks of herself as ugly, when she is about to take a flight to France, where her modeling career is supposed to start. The rising action of Jirina being chosen to go modeling during summer vacation to Paris, a place where she has never been that also inspires her feeling of being fooled and the target of a joke. The story takes place in Paris; a beautiful, big and dangerous city, where Jirina gets hired by a models agency to start with her dreamed life. At the agency Jirina is described as beautiful, perfect and the next modeling star. Jirina loves being in Paris, even when she doesn’t have any friends or family. “What I wouldn’t give to accomplish my dreams”. At first Jirina gets involved in many problems, she has no money; her mother doesn’t care about her, and starts combining drugs, sex and alcohol. After some time, Jirina becomes the model everyone thought she would be. Just then Jirina discovers she’s pregnant and has to make the most important decision: stay in Paris to follow her dream or retire and have her baby, which probably won’t have a father. "So far, if I want my baby, it means going back home or finding a rich man real soon-one who will marry a fifteen-year-old. That's gonna happen."

The purpose of this book was accomplished. Its was to entertain, but also to explain in a detailed way what being a model implies. She wanted to make people realize how hard this career can be, she explained all the challenges and sacrifices, and how a lot of models loose their innocence while they are fighting to succeed as models. The idea behind this book can be common between books about fashion modeling, but what makes this book special is the way its author showed all about this career; she did that in a way that only someone who've experienced that could do it.

A Model Summer is rated as 4stars. It has reviews from many important magazines, newspapers companies and the fashion industry.

This book showed exactly what i wanted to know. It gave details about the sacrifices and challenges the modeling career brings, it showed that models are not treated like stars by the agencies, and how dangerous this career can become if models are not smart enough. A Model Summer showed information that i wasn't able to get on the Internet nor books or magazines. I loved this book, because it provided interesting stuff that never made me get bored, but made me finish the book in three days. I particularly enjoy when the main character fell in love with a man much older than her, it was very romantic. That's why i would totally recommend this book to young girls that would like to become one of those famous models, it would explain their lives in a very wide way.

What About Male Models???

Being a model is a very interesting and challenging career. Modeling for a man is different than for female models. It can be even more interesting, exciting and the perfect way to acquire fame and popularity.
But What Exactly is a Male Model?
A Male model is a man with certain characteristics, who promotes clothing for a company or fashion industry by showing their muscular and amazing bodies. There are different types of modeling for men; fashion, commercial and speciality modeling.
Fashion Modeling includes things like clothing campaigns, posing for magazines, catalogues and ramp walks.
Commercial Modeling involves modeling to promote product sales.
Speciality Modelling is for those with special faces and bodies.
Males models are required to have a height of 5ft 11 in to 6ft 2 in. A waist of 26-33 in and a chest measurement of 32-40 in.
Modeling is not just about famous faces. Models have to be confident; confidence is the key to success in this career.
Modeling careers for men has become very popular, as the fashion industry has been growing. Male models are the missing part so fashion could be completed. Male models is not as old as female models, but they have become a really important part of today's society.
Male models doesn't face as much challenges and adversities as female models do, but they also have to keep their body as the fashion industry requires them.
Even when male models are not as usual as females models, they earn similar money as females models do per contract.
Male models have a very interesting effect in today's society increasing magazines, companies and brands popularity to the point of becoming essential. Today Male models are essential to the Fashion industry.

Now I think of them like prisoners of people's caprices, but it made me realize that people are not interested on runway models as they were some years ago, now they prefer Hollywood stars to be the ones who appear on the magazine's covers.

This is an interesting article on how thin models (many of them with eating disorders) are having effects on young girls, but it also gives details about what the world is doing to prevent young girls of becoming anorexic or bulimic. For example in Madrid models that were under the healthy weight were banned, because most of the young girls are not satisfied with their body figure, because the established body figure is runway model like! I liked this article because it is reliable and shows current events on the Fashion Model topic.

Dear Tyra Banks:

I truly like the "America's Next Top Model" show; I think is the greatest show that has ever existed. I also admire you, your career and your beauty, but also the way you have succeeded in the television industry. Your character besides your body and beauty is what makes you so beautiful and popular in the view of the public. Also, the way you support those girls who dream of becoming famous top models like you is really admirable.

However, when watching your show I realize that not every girl will have the opportunity to become a model. I find myself as one of those girls, who are not very thin and not very tall, but who would love to be one of those famous models able to wear what the fashion industry says is “in.” Wouldn't it be easier and healthier if models were not as thin?

Models have influenced women's lives to the point where women are diffident about their bodies, making them try to be as thin as possible, ignoring what the consequences may be. Models were admired a lot more some years ago when they were not very thin, because they had a figure that seemed attainable for every women, perhaps they looked healthier and more natural.

I, as part of the U.S. community would love to see models with a little more body, just like the Hollywood stars, who don’t need to be skinny to be famous and appear on magazine's covers, or to be people’s favorite stars. This would not only help a model to be more auspicious, it would help to decrease many eating disorders between girls and young women of the country.

Fashion Model Job Trends

This graph displays the percentage of jobs with search terms anywhere in the job listing. Since March 2008 the Fashion Model Jobs has increased 88%. This means that as the time goes on, Fashion Industry keeps interpolating young girls about modeling, and young girls are eager to become auspicious by getting in the Fashion Industry.

Are Actresses Edging Out Models on Magazine Covers?

My article is about actresses taking away models work, I found this article in the New York Times web page. There were many related to my topic, but I chose this one because I thought it was interesting and it could keep my blog interesting. I also chose it because it matches with my latest post. This article has more opinion than facts and it was written by Suzy Menkes.
In this article Marc Jacobs chief sponsor of the Costume Institute exhibition, talks about how models are having hard time appearing on magazines covers, because those magazines are featuring Hollywood stars' issues. "The idea of supermodels came in a pop culture when actresses weren't that interesting. Now Hollywood is filled with young actresses, and there is digital technology to make them look good."(Jacobs) Also Anna Wintour, editor in chief of Vogue magazine, admits that people today is more likely to find star power in Hollywood than on the run way. "The public interest in models these last few years has not been as it was during the early' 90s when Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista caused so much excitement, and until models become celebrities again in their own right, I can't see them selling as well on magazine covers as actresses" (Wintour) She also said that in order for models to become popular and famous as Hollywood stars, they are going to have to live that sort of "fishbowl" existence.
For me models this days are only to be on the runways, they aren't as facetious as actresses are and that is why we prefer to see actresses on magazine covers. Also i think that models are just so skinny and abnormal and sometimes even hubris for people to look up, also their type of body and kind of life make people think of how imperfect we are, while actresses are cute, and interesting but they also have a reachable figure for people to follow, and even they show us more about their lives so we realize that they are just like us and i think that is the main reason of why we prefer them on the magazine covers.
Even though I'm used to see actresses on magazine covers, i never thought that fashion models were running out of opportunities to appear on them. I never thought about runway models to appear on something else besides the fashion shows, and i think that is another issue for the fashion industry to consider, because even when they think as their models as perfect the reality is that those models aren't as famous and loved as Hollywood stars are. I also think that people is getting tired of trying to follow models way of living, because of the obstacles and issues they face every day, and that's why don't really see their life as the life we would love to live.
